Philadelphia, PA - Breathing is something most of us take for granted, until it becomes difficult. Behind each breath is a complex system of lungs, airways, muscles and blood vessels that requires expert coordinated care.
“Our Foundation has a long history of supporting respiratory patients”, states Morgan DeNicola, DeNicola Family Foundation Executive Director.
Ross Summer, MD. Ludwig A. Kind Professor of Medicine and Division Director of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine is committed to enhancing patient education materials and learning opportunities through support groups, educational videos and pamphlets, webinars, community outreach, and provider symposis. Providers often have limited time with patients making it challenging to fully explain disease management, reinforce adherence, and promote prevention. Our engagement will deliver interactive educational modules, personalized dialogue tools, and structured coaching programs designed to empower patients to actively participate in their care, thus enhancing outcomes, reducing complications and strengthening provider-patient relationships.
It is known that patient education videos improve comprehension, engagement and adherence to treatment by using clear visuals to explain complex medical information and procedures, which can also reduce patient anxiety and improve health literacy, especially for those with language barriers.
We envision producing 8-10 short videos on common issues such as inhaler technique, smoking cessation and other relevant topics in the pulmonary space.
Participating in community outreach and health fairs, sending trainees to conference, and hosting symposia are additional ways philanthropy can ultimately educate patients and have them “breathe easy” despite their diagnoses.
